The photograph of the jellyfish in the header image was taken by Jeff Kubina and is in the public domain. This is not a image of Aequorea Victoria (the jellyfish used to isolate the first GFP - see below). This is a brightfield image using reflected light, and is therefore not a fluorrescent image. On the other hand, the photograph of the colored vials is a fluorescent image of various mutant Fluorescent Proteins that were isolated and purified by Nathan Shanner in our laboratory. The image was taken using UV excitation and a digital SLR with an emission filter over the lens. The emission filter prevents the excitation light from directly reaching the CCD sensor.
