Rendered GFP Molecule

BACKGROUND

Depicted is a conceptual model of a fusion between GFP (coordinates from Protein Data Bank structure 1HUY) and a tetracysteine containing peptide (CCXXCC) that has been site-specifically labeled with the ‘resorufin bisarsenical hairpin-binding’ dye (ReAsH). This type of construct has proven useful for characterizing the biarsenical-tetracysteine labeling system in live cells due to ability of GFP and ReAsH to undergo fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) (see for example Griffin et al. (1998) and Adams et al. (2002)). This model was constructed by hand in Xfit (part of the XtalView package) and rendered with Molscript and Raster3d.
